Chelmsford TUC

A discussion on health and safety took place at the monthly meeting of Chelmsford TUC with delegates expressing their concern that asbestos still has a significant presence in many schools throughout the country, posing a threat to teachers and students. This debate will continue when the Trades Council holds its open-air meeting on April 28th at 12.30 to mark Workers’ Memorial Day. The guest speaker will be Dan McCarthy, Vice-President of the NASUWT. Members of the public are invited to the event which will be held in Central Park, near the lake and viaduct.

The Council will be supporting the demonstration taking place in London on 4th March to defend the NHS and will be submitting its views to the Essex Success Regime against proposals to downgrade the accident and emergency facilities at Broomfield and Southend Hospitals.

Delegates reported that the show Dare Devil Rides to Jarama held at the Cramphorn Theatre had been a great success as was their pre-theatre dinner.

Plans are now well in hand for Chelmsford TUC’s major public event, its rally on 3rd May at the Asylum Club, Chelmsford. Two professional artists, Rob Johnson and Rick Christian, will be the key performers.
