Chelmsford TUC

Delegates to Chelmsford TUC started the year in campaigning mode by distributing thousands of Action for Rail postcards to commuters at Chelmsford railway station. The objective was to draw their MPs attention to the latest massive increase in fares, cancelled and cut services, overcrowded carriages, fewer ticket offices and driver-only operated trains. They were joined by members of the transport union TSSA and Chelmsford Labour Party all of whom were calling for public ownership of the railways. Widespread coverage of the event took place on BBC Essex, Heart Radio and ITV.
Chelmsford TUC will be supporting a public meeting about reduced local NHS services at Friends Meeting House on 19 January and a local march on 24 January where a petition on the NHS changes will be handed to Chelmsford City Council. On 17 February delegates are organising a visit to the Cramphorn Theatre to see Dare Devil Rides to Jarama. They are also planning to enter a team for the quiz evening that is being organised by Chelmsford City Fairtrade Campaign. After concluding their business delegates sat down to an excellent meal in the Orange Tree to celebrate the New Year.
