We now have 25 affiliated branches representing over 16,000 members. Delegates agreed a motion applauding the historic link between the trade union and co-operative movements. This will be discussed at the County Association of Trades Councils before submission to the National Conference in
The meeting agreed to affiliate to a number of organisations locally and nationally, and to make an investment in the recently launched Fair Traders Co-operative. Marion Wilson (NUT) was nominated for the TUC Women’s Rights Committee and the Pensioners’ Network. Chris Habib (Unite) was nominated for the TUC’s International Affairs Committee. It was also agreed that we would call a meeting of interested groups to establish Chelmsford as a Transition Town. The Secretary was asked to write to all MEPs in the Eastern Region to express our concern at the EU’s proposal to establish a Free Trade Agreement with Colombia. At the March meeting we will have a speaker from Campaign against the Arms Trade and conclude the evening with a Fairtrade Tasting.
